Possibly: There are alot of factors involved. You need to seek the opinion of an orthopedic surgeon who does microsurgery of the spine.

Yes : When trying to consider a surgical option for back pain you need to see a spine surgeon first. Sometimes surgery is not the best option and chronic pain/spine management may be employed which it sound like you are in. If you are having to take pain meds regularly it might be an evaluation you may want to pursue to at least know your options.
