Anesth constipation: The narcotic component of an anesthetic can cause consitpation. If the narcotics that your provider uses are more short acting then this will be less of an issue. Also, unless you are taking narcotics post-operatively this effect will be gone in a day or so.

Constipation: Narcotics such as Demerol or morphine are frequently used as parts of anesthetic, and can cause constipation. Surgery of the abdomen or for abdominal problems can be associated with an ileus, and constipated. Some major tranquilizers like Droperidol and phenergan, (promethazine) both of which are antiemetic s, can cause constipation.
