Can you inherit congenital heart problems from your grandfather?

Inheritance: Inheriting a congenital problem means the genes have been passed through the generations. If you grandfather had the problem genes and it is passed through generations you could inherit. Unless its x chromosome linked and you are female.

Hard to predict: The frequency of a congenital heart defect of any kind is 1/2 to 1% of all live births. The information involved is located on many different genes, so direct inheritance is rare.A parent has only a 4% risk of passing chd of any type to their child, while two parents with some form of chd twice the risk.Genetic counseling can define your specific risks and identify conditions where this may be more.
