If contaminated: Infections are caused by organisms such as bacteria and viruses. If your immune system is impaired or the product contains disease causing organisms, then yes you can get an infection. It's not the whey protein that is the problem, although i'm not a fan of whey protein in general. Get your protein from egg whites, chickpeas, nuts, wild fish, etc. Instead.
