Yes, but...: Xanax (alprazolam) is a tranquilizer in the "benzodiazepine" family. It is short-acting (works about 2 or 3 hrs) and helps a person calm down and relax. However, all "benzos" are habit-forming and difficult to stop if used regularly. Xanax is especially bad this way. They also mix dangerously with alcohol & can affect driving. There are better, non-drug ways to deal with stress.

Potentially yes: Xanax (alprazolam) is a benzodiazepine which can reduce anxiety. However it is habit forming and one can become dependent on it. There are other antianxiety medications that are frequently used and psychotherapy may also be helpful.
