Impairment: Any addiction is "real" when it causes impairment of function. For example if the sex addiction causes one to expose themselves to danger or not take basic health precautions.

Is it real for you?: You might consider attending a mutual support meeting for sexual compulsivity. Listen to the experience of others for whom sex addiction is real before you decide for yourself.

Yes!: Many professionals think that behavioral addictions are not legitimate, just "bad habits." but if a behavior takes over your life or interferes with other major parts of life, it may be that the behavior (internet, gambling, sex, food, etc) is affecting yr brain chemistry similar to an intoxicating chemical. Abstinence ; support from others helps, see http://www.Netaddiction.Com/.
