Topical steroids?: Stretch marks occur when the skin grows or changes so fast that it cannot maintain the integrity of the underlying skin. Collagen bundles can be stretched instead of compact. Stretch marks don't usually have sores on them, but can develop sores if an overlying yeast infection develops or if topical steroids are used.
