Meningitis: Meningitis is the inflammation of the membranes(meninges) surrounding the brain and spinal cord. Symptoms include headache, fever, stiff neck and light sensitivity. Causes may be infectious, tumor or chemical irritation. Medical evaluation is indicated for symptoms of meningitis.

Depends: The classic symptoms of viral meningitis are fever, stiff neck, headache and sensitivity to light. There can also be a change in the mental status, behavior or personality. Other symptoms can include a rash or vomiting.
