Depends: There are a number of reasons to have vaginal edema. Some are serious and should be treated (infection, allergic reaction, etc). You should see your doctor.

Many causes: There are many causes. Among the most common are: Trauma, infection (yeast, herpes, etc), Bartholin Gland cysts, Hematomas and edema (similar to swollen ankles). If you want to know, see your doc for an exam. Best wishes!
