Maybe or maybe not: Dark brown discharge may or may not be a period. For some women with very light periods, if that occurs at the time of her normal period it could be what her period is that cycle. However dark brown discharge not at the time of the usual period could be bleeding from the uterus or cervix, from a growth or from an infection, or from hormones being off.
