Few Weeks: I would wait at least a few weeks before determining the effectiveness of most medications used to help treat nerve related pain issues.

Two components, if the nortryptyline will work: first, it is likely to take 3-4 weeks minimally prior to benefit, and second, adequate dose level must be on board. If this fails, consider gabapentin or pregabalin.
