Easy bruising?: The cause of easy bruising (if your 'splotches' are bruises) can be subdivided into disorders of blood vessels and surrounding tissues, platelet problems, or coagulation disorders. A good history and physical will determine the cause in most cases. If the bruising is confined to the distal extremities, or there is no bleeding elsewhere or family history, labs and further workup may not be needed.
