Need other pill: Different women respond differently to different oral contraceptive pills. If you are taking the pill correctly and still have cramps and breakthrough bleeding, trying a different pill may make things much better.

Side effects: Most women who take birth control pills have no side effects, but the most common side effect in the first 1-3 months is irregular bleeding that gets better over time. Missed pills can also cause breakthrough bleeding. Cramps usually go along with spotting. Otc meds such as Ibuprofen or Naproxen can help cramps and bleeding.
