A member asked:

Is it 'normal' to have extreme nausea the first day of my menstrual cycle? if so, why does it happen & how can i stop/lessen it?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Can occur: Nausea, vomiting, cramping or headaches can occur with the start of a menstrual cycle. These symptoms are related to the release of prostaglandins from endometrial sloughing at the beginning of menses. The release of prostaglandins can be reduced by nsaids ( motrin, aleve, (naproxen) etc) and by taking hormonal birth control pills. Nausea can be specifically reduced by taking anti-nausea medication.
