Unless there was: Gross deformity you may not be able to tell without x-ray.

Not well: The only conclusive way to tell the difference without an xray is if the fractures can be felt on physical exam. Diagnosis by palpating the fracture is difficult and seldom successful because of the fracture induced pain, tenderness and swelling.
