A member asked:

Why does smoking affect laboratory results?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Affects few tests: Smokers have slightly higher white cell count than non smokers because of irritation to lungs and blood vessels.Smokers also have higher value for carbon monoxide. With chronic lung disease due to smoking oxygen level in blood goes down and carbon dioxide rises.
