What is the subtle burning under the left rib cage?

Probable neuritis: Subtle burning under the left rib cage may be due to intercostal neuritis, which is inflammation of the nerve that runs under the rib. It could also be due to a muscle strain, or could possibly be referred from elsewhere. If the pain has only been there a short time, i would take over-the-counter analgesics and see if goes away on its own. Otherwise i would have it checked out.
