Possible, unlikely: The Mirena (levonorgestrel) iud sits within the uterine cavity and is very unlikely to be displaced. This can, however, occur if there is some distortion of the uterine cavity and/or improper placement of the iud. If there is any question about the iud placement, then an ultrasound is a great way to confirm that it is where it should be.
