A member asked:

When are hiv tests conclusive?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

When positive: Hiv are tests are conclusive when antibody is detected and confirmed by western blot, HIV viral antigen is detected in blood and/or HIV nucleic acid is detected in blood. A negative test does not rule of HIV infection as there are so called window periods. See this site for more information. http://www.webmd.com/hiv-aids/guide/hiv-aids-diagnosis-tests.
