What causes an ovarian cyst to calcify?

Depends: Most normal ovarian cysts do not calcify. When they do, they are usually not the normal follicular / ovulatory cyst. A calcified cyst is more likely to be a dermoid, fibroid, fibroma, or even a cancer. It will usually need to be removed surgically.
