Period: I cannot speak from a medical perspective, but from a psychological perspective, stress can affect your cycle onset and duration.

A 22-year-old member asked:

I heard that heavy menstrual periods can cause anemia. Is there anything I can do to prevent the anemia?

Yes: Anemia can be treated with iron supplementation. The key though is to fix the underlying cause. Discuss treatment options for heavy periods with your obgyn. If you still want children then birth control pills can lighten the cycle.. If you are done with pregnancies you may be a candidate for an in office endometrial ablation to lighten or stop your cycles.
A 33-year-old member asked:

After fertilization can heavy bleeding occur, similar to a menstrual cycle?

2 doctor answers3 doctors weighed in
Dr. Philip Chenette
Fertility Medicine 38 years experience
No: Fertilization is entrance of the sperm cell into the egg. These single cells have very little influence on hormones or endometrial lining, so fertilization won't cause a heavy bleed. Uterine problems like fibroids or polyps, or hormonal problems like low Progesterone levels are more likely a source of bleeding in early pregnancy. A pelvic exam and ultrasound are helpful to evaluate.

Can herbal supplements help in delaying menstrual cycle?

Dr. Pavel Conovalciuc
Family Medicine 23 years experience
Why?: I wonder why you would want your menstrual cycle delayed. If there is a specific reason for it, i would not risk in turning to any herbal supplement as there is none to date with proven/documented efficacy in doing so.

Yes: Many women with early stage ovarian cancer do not know they have it. They will still have menstrual cycles. Ovarian cancer does not cause menstrual cycles to stop.
