I have a golf ball sized mass under my bottom ribs on my left side. i noticed it this morning and my dr won't work me in. it's sore but not painful.

Seek Attention: I would recommend you seek medical attention as soon as possible. I would try contacting your doctor again. An emergency room is not the ideal place to have this type of issue evaluated as it doesn't seem like a true emergency. If your doctor can see you within 1-2 days, that may be best. But please remember you may need to see a physician sooner if things worsen.

Skin and Bumps: It is not urgent to be seen today about it. But, i would get in this week. Please do not go to the er for this. That would be inappropriate. In most cases these are bruises or blood clots from being bumped. There is also a common benign condition called lipoma that this could represent, but one that is 'irritated'.
