Tongue/muscles: You only realize it is happening right upon falling asleep because you are conscious but it is also happening during sleep and you don't 'feel it.' it is because the muscles in the upper airway/tongue relax and block of airway. It is relatively common 9% of men and 4% of women that are adults; it is sleep apnea. Get it checked out. If it worse on back and also worse after alcohol.

Sleep Problem: It may be a sign of sleep apnea. You should get a sleep test done. Go to a sleep physician or dental sleep medicine person.
