You are correct: The famous traveler's diarrhea is caused by the bug vibrio cholerae... Cholera can be endemic, epidemic, or pandemic...It is a rather important disease. Take precaution if you travel. Consult your doc. Check cdc.Gov web site before traveling etc... Good luck.

Yes - Vibrio cholera: Specific strains of Vibrio cholerae can cause Cholera. Two types can cause epidemic cholera if they produce cholera toxin – serogroups O1 & O139.
