Swelling: It is normal for women to get some swelling in the ankles over times as the deep veins of the leg become less effective at pumping blood back to the heart. Elevation and ice can help after exercise. Compression stockings can help. If there is also pain present, tendonitis or arthritis can be a cause and should be evaluated by a foot and ankle specialist.
