A member asked:

What happens if your instistines burst?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Not good: The intestinal contents including a host of bacteria will spread throughout the abdominal cavity causing a condition termed peritonitis. This is painful, and lethal unless treated. The only recourse is emergency surgery, lavage of the cavity to remove as much material as possible, liberally using antibiotics in the cavity, and identifying the burst portion with closure. Then a long hospital stay.
