Depends: If you had your Implanon inserted within 5 days of when your last period began, it is effective immediately. At any other point during your menstrual cycle, a backup form of birth control (i.e. Condoms) should be used for 7 days. If you are unsure about the timing of insertion, use backup birth control for 7 days to be on the safe side.
