Critical temperature: A temp of101.6 f may be considered critical in an infant. However, let your common sense be your guide. Because infants have poor temperature control an infant may have a normal temperature and be deathly ill. Conversely he may have a fever of 103-4 f and be running around the house in a very playful mood.

No such thing.: A happy, playful baby isn't "critical" regardless of temperature. A sick-looking baby may be headed for intensive care with a normal temperature. Look at the child before you look at the thermometer.
