Not directly....: The most common cause of coughing blood is bronchitis, usually caused by an infection of the airways. People with bronchitis are typically coughing a lot but it is the bronchitis causing the person to cough blood. Malignancy can also lead to coughing blood, though, so this must always be worked up by a doctor to be certain it is a benign process.
