What does it mean that my enamel is completely gone?

Tooth is worn: If your enamel is gone, then this means that the tooth is worn and only the underlying dentin structure is left.

Protective layer: The enamel is the protective layer of your tooth, either through chemical erosion or physical trauma or a developmental problem yours is gone. The dentin is the next layer of tooth which is generally very sensitive, you get inside the dentin and you have your nerve. Dentin decays much faster than enamel, he or she probably wants to crown your tooth if it is indeed restorable.
