Candida: Candida albicans is an organism that normally makes a quiet home for itself on your skin and doesn't bother anyone. We all carry this organism on our skin, in our mouth, in our gastrointestinal tract (gut), and, in the case of women, they can carry this organism in their vagina.

Yeast infection: Candidiasis is a yeast infection caused by candida or monilia. In children, the most common forms of candidiasis are oral (thrush) and diaper rash. Any toddler with thrush who mouths a toy can infect another toddler who will get infected by playing with it or put the same toy in his/her mouth. The yeast can also be swallowed and cause the diaper rash. Treatment is nystatin, orally or topically.
