A member asked:

I am on verapimil for heart arrythmias. i understand i shouldn't eat grapefruit. are there any other foods that are problematic with this medication?

No other foods: Avoid or limit ethanol use, as verapamil can increase blood levels. There are herbal supplements you should avoid, if verapamil is being used to treat high blood pressure. However, this is not relevant if you are taking it only for rate control of a supraventricular tachyarrhythmia.

Grapefruit interacti: The other interactions with verapamil among commonly consumed items are with alcohol (you will get higher alcohol levels in your blood) and with calcium (verapamil is a calcium channel blocker, thus extra calcium will tend to reduce its effectiveness).
