No, not at all!: This is one big misunderstanding. Chemotherapy is a medicine which can be taken by mouth or given as IV injection, just like other medicines. When administered carefully by an oncologist, it should not hurt. Occasionally it can cause phlebitis in the vein used for injection but that can be avoided by using IV catheters, a small plastic tube which then protects the vein and also can be reused.
