What makes salting a canker sore help with pain?

No: The salt burns the tissue. This will tend to cause more pain and take longer to heal. Try topical anesthetic instead before eating and sleeping.

Hurts: It would hurt a lot at first but may hasten the recovery. However I am unaware of any scientific study on this approach and obviously no drug company would sponsor such a study.
