Not rare: 10-15% of lung cancers occur in non-smokers. 16-24, 000 americans die of lung cancer each year are "never smoked" patients. If you just took the "never smoked" group of lung cancer deaths, completely separate from the “smokers”, the "never smoked" lung cancer disease would rank among the top 10 fatal cancers in the United States.

How quickly does lung cancer spread?

Very variable: This varies with cancer type and route of spread among other factors. At the time of diagnosis, small cell lung cancer is more often already spread to other organs. Non-small cell cancer can stay as small lung nodules for a couple of years before picking up speed. Spreading via the blood vessels can be sometimes faster than spread through the lymph nodes.

Usually Chemotherapy: Chemotherapy is the mainstay for treatment and depending on factors such as age, cancer subtype, performance level, etc. The type of chemotherapy is decided by your oncologist. Cure is not possible but survival can be prolonged. Radiation is used for certain situations (pain, bleeding, cancer spread to brain, etc). Enrolling on clinical trials for patients is encouraged.

What are the possibilities for a 20 year old to get lung cancer ? I mean is it possible at such a young age ?

Not much: Cancer of lung at the age of 20 is very rare. If you are afraid of getting lung cancer don't smoke , don't get exposed to toxic chemicals including second hand smoke , have clean habits, then you will reduce the incidence in later years of your life. Who knows 30 yrs from now when you are 50 there may be even cure good luck in your life.
