What's the significance of glioma?

More info needed: Gliomas are tumors of support cells of the nervous system called glial cells. Most of them occur in the brain. Treament depends on the site and grade of the tumor. High-grade tumors are very difficult to cure, whereas low-grade tumors have a better prognosis. Surgical removal is possible, depending upon the site and degree of spread.

Primary brain tumor: Gliomas are the most commonly occurring primary brain tumors, the incidence increases with advancing age. Male:female ratio ~1:1.6, greater in whites than african americans.There are no known environmental factor that lead to brain tumors.The only risk factor is ionizing radiation, such as that used to treat a prior malignancy, may increase the risk of a glioma.Hiv infection may increase the risk.
