Go to ER: This is obviously not normal and should be evaluated in er. If persists, can get gastroenterology consult or nuclear medicine study to id source and attempt to address. Can also check bloodwork to see how much blood lost, as does not require much to make bowl red. Call ambulance if cannot get him to er by yourself.

To the doctor: He needs to go to the doctor to get evaluated. Blood in the stool or toilet is never normal. At his age, this could be many different things including hemorrhoids, fissures, tears, or more serious colon conditions such as colitis, inflammatory bowel disease, or even cancer (although less likely unless there is family history). Regardless, please convince him to see his doctor.
