Many causes: Palpitations usually refer to rapid heart rate or irregular heart rhythm. There are many causes of both, including anxiety, sleep apnea, caffeine, some drugs, fever, anemia, dehydration, alcohol withdrawal, etc. If this is a recurrent problem, it may be helpful to explore this further with your doctor.
