Necessary: It sounds as if you might have a rectal cancer, and you should see your doctor for an evaluation as soon as you can (tomorrow!). Surgery for this isn't painless, sorry, but death is worse. If the lump is just a large hemorrhoid, removal will still be painful, but manageable.
