Get prenatal care: The most important thing is the health of the child that is developing and forming its vital organs. Please make an appointment for prenatal care now. To avoid excess weight gain, continue to eat a healthy diet with plenty of vegetables, some fruits, lean protein and whole grains. Take a prenatal multivitamin making sure you are getting 800 mcg per day of folate (folic acid) and omega 3s (dha & epa).

Pregnancy: I agree w dr. Porter. It is normal to gain weight during pregnancy. The abdomen gets large because of the growing baby. Get prenatal care early. Unless you had a specific health contraindication - you can continue to be physically active (exercise) while pregnant. A woman's body was specially designed to be able to carry a baby. That is a wonderful thing. Please accept yourself. Take care.

Dont diet: If you diet and try to not gain weight with your pregnancy, it can harm you baby. You should gain about 20 to 30 pounds while pregnant. Talk to your doctor. Now, you can try and not gain too much weight by eating healthy. Talk to your doctor who can tell you how many calories you need.
