Infection: Boils are caused by a skin infection of one of many glands or hair follicles that causes an intense inflammation in the skin. They are usually treated by antibiotics and fortunately resolve quickly. Gentle cleansing is helpful. Avoid alcohol, peroxide, dakin's as these do not help. Sometimes they drain, other times, they need to be drained. Your doc will help make that decision with you.
