Irritating: While a dilute salt water rinse can promote healing and comfort, concentrated salt will irritate exposed nerves in an ulcerated wound and really get your attention.

An irritant: The blister is a raw wound that is not protected by an outer covering and salt is an irritant. The salt irritation will actually help stimulate the tissue to produce a cover over the wound.
