Yes: Having dementia means that there has been a decline in a patient's thinking abilities that interfere with their daily functioning. The cause of dementia depends on a patient's age and sometimes other medical conditions. Rarely the dementia may be treatable such as thyroid disease, b vitamin deficiency or depression. Older people are at risk for causes like strokes, alzheimer's disease and others.

Yes very important: Your brother will have progressive mental deterioration over the next 2-10 years depending on the stage of dementia. Visiting your brother routinely will help him with joy and pride but it will sadden on your heart because you have a very special connection with him. If you go to www.Alz.Org there are places where you can involve support group and chat with friends.
