Go to the ER: Thorough evaluation is needed, including physical examination and imaging studies (chest x-ray and perhaps a ct scan). Based on the extent of the trauma and the findings further treatment will be needed.

See a doctor: Chest trauma is a very large topic. It can range anywhere from a rib fracture to major internal organ injury. The majority of chest trauma is caused from blunt injury such as car accidents, falls, etc. If you are involved in an accident and have pain, shortness of breath, bleeding, light headedness, vomiting, palpitations, or other symptoms you need to be evaluated in an er.
