It is real: Bipolar disorder is a genuine illness in the brain that often causes great suffering to that person and that person's loved ones. Someone can pretend to have bipolar as an excuse to act out, sure. But that does not mean bipolar is not real. Check out the book entitled 'an unquiet mind'.
