Constipation remedy: Assuming this is a new problem and no other symptoms are present, you should first modify your diet and avoid things that may be making you constipated. Drink plenty of water and increase your dietary intake of fruits and vegetables (hi fiber). Prunes or prune juice is a pretty good mild laxative. Over the counter docusate and senna are also effective. Discuss with your doctor if persistent.

Constipation: First, if you've not had a colonoscopy, it's time to consider it given your age. I recommend increasing fluid intake to no less than 2 quarts a day. Fiber such as metamucil or citrucel with a glass of water should be helpful. Miralax (polyethylene glycol) once daily can do it. If those measure don't work, it would be time to see a doc.
