Insect bite reaction: Insect bites, like those from mosquitos, can cause a delayed reaction taking hours to days to develop. This has to do with the time that it takes inflammatory cells to migrate into the area in response to insect derived chemicals. Sometimes redness and swelling may occur a day or more after. It is also possible that a secondary eczema may develop due to damage to the skin from scratching.
