Limited time: Taking Progesterone such as Provera (medroxyprogesterone) usually works well to stop a prolonged period. However the next period will come 2-5 days after finishing the medication. This period should be more normal in length - the Progesterone helps you to both have a period and have it be self limited. If periods are irregular it can be helpful to take bcp or Provera (medroxyprogesterone) to regulate them.
