Group home: Is smaller; also called board and care. Assisted living is larger; people living in assisted living need to be more independent (e.g. Being able to feed, dress, bathe themselves, walk to dining room). However, less independent people can still live in assisted living if they get private caregiver or make arrangements for more help. I prefer board and care for my frailer patients.
