A member asked:

Could you diagnose depression based purely on tone of voice and body language and eye contact?

Depression : Depression can't be diagnosed with these symptoms. Other symptoms such as sleep disturbances, loss of appetite, weight changes come into play to make an official diagnosis of depression. If you are depressed medication may be needed, but counseling is mandatory to get through it. Hope this helps.

Depression: Those indicators could lead, along with other symptoms, to a diagnosis of depression but alone it would be inappropriate to make the diagnosis without further evidence. If ou are concerned consult with a mental health professional and share your concerns openly. Best wishes.

Depression: You need neurovegetative signs and symptoms to justify diagnosing major depression, along with the history taking and other diagnostic tools.
